Since I’ve started blogging I’ve been fascinated (ok I admit it obsessed) by the statistics. I know all the season bloggers say to forget about the views and just write. That is easier said than done. I’m happy the way my blog is going, slowly increasing its readership and getting a decent number of views. At the time of writing this I have 246 followers and my best day I had 192 views. Small compared to some but still progress.
What I really like is seeing is the breakdown of the origin of viewers overall. Most of mine come from the USA not the UK. But I also get quite a few from all countries of the globe. I have had 44 from the Netherlands mainly due to some friends I used to play WoW with and have stay in touch over Facebook. I’ve had 29 from Thailand all I think from a friend who moved there to pursue a career in kickboxing (thanks Krish).
What’s even better is the views I’ve had from part of the world I have never been or know anyone, don’t worry I’m not going to list them all. It is amazing how you can write some rubbish about obsession and someone halfway across the world reads it and doesn’t totally hate it! Not only that I can read about their cat or whatever it is they like to blog about.
I’ve not had and views from Switzerland yet maybe I should write about chocolate?
Congrats on your views and followers!! And you are right, I always check the stats to see who is reading from where. People all around the globe reading my posts boggles my mind because I know even though its the internet and anyone can access anywhere, it still puts me in awe. It is a gratifying experience.

Greenland, Eric, Greenland is the country everyones wants too get a hit from. Problem is nobody knows if the hit would show up as coming from Denmark, being as Greenland belongs to Denmark. I’ve no come across anybody yet who says that Greenland shows up on their hit list.

I don’t have Denmark or Greenland. Hugh you will never get a hit from Greenland if you say they belong to Denmark!

True, but does it belong to Denmark? Plus, I’ve had readers from Denmark, so how come Greenland isn’t also coloured in on my map?

I think they see themselves as independent now.

I did not know this about Greenland! I only know that, according to Icelanders, Greenland and Iceland switched names so people would go to Greenland and not to Iceland. I love those Icelanders! They are such interesting, artistic people who know how to enjoy life! (And no one will ever convince me that they are the biggest drinkers of alcohol!) 😉 ❤
So, that brings up another subject. Any of you out there gotten a hit from Iceland? I would pay for that to happen! I bet, within a few weeks, you would have hundreds of Icelanders following you!
All the best to you all!

No, never had a blog hit from Iceland either. There must be some bloggers there but I guess, like the rest of us, they are small fish in a very large pond.

Awesome post Eric! I have to admit it is pretty fascinating checking the stats of my blog. I am just curious, but what made you want to start blogging anyway?

To get a platform to help sell my book. Now it’s more about practicing my writing. How about you?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I kinda started to build a platform, but once I did I found that I like writing nonfiction articles for my blog than posting some of my fiction stuff. Now I am more focused on just trying to make a blog where a new writer can go and read through for some tips to improve their writing or learn about the business. On that same topic, I have had a guest write a post on some advice that they think is really useful, and if you are not too busy I was going to invite you to be a guest sometime. It is no problem if you can’t or you don’t want to. I just really enjoy reading your stuff so I thought I would ask.

I would to, what sort of thing do you want me to write about?

It can be whatever you want as long as you think that it could someway help a new writer. Examples might be how to build an Author Platform, best ways to connect to a reader, editing or revising advice, maybe some advice on how to build characters, or anything that you think would fit. Could I get your email so I could send you an invite?

I go through stages where I have an influx of views from China. Goodness knows what that’s all about. Occasionally Russia, too. Anyway – big congrats on growing your blog, good to know it’s going well!

Reblogged this on sherriemiranda1 and commented:
I understand, Eric, your wanting more and more followers (and commenters, etc.). I almost didn’t even start my blog as I thought it would be a waste of my (precious ;->) time. After I finally had it up & running, it took me months just to figure out how to do certain things, like share it in other sites. And I still haven’t figured out how to get those flags in there (though I have them in my blogspot blogs. Those blogs are not about writing – they are about other subjects that interest me.)
Anyway, now I am glad about whatever happens because the post also goes to my FB page (where I have 5K plus connections), Twitter (that is growing by leaps & bounds – thanks to my publicist!) and several other social sites.
So I am glad my blog followers are growing, but I have learned not to get hung up on any one thing. Life is about moving forward and only looking back to learn the lessons so let’s all just keep moving forward!
Sherrie
P.S. I love your comment about “Chocolate.” I actually met a woman in Switzerland who was biting the tops off the liquor-filled chocolates she got for Xmas, dumping the liquor down the drain and eating the chocolates like there was no tomorrow! She was Swiss-French, if that makes any difference! 😉 ❤
Sherrie Miranda's historically based, coming of age, Adventure novel “Secrets & Lies in El Salvador” is about an American girl in war-torn El Salvador:

I always find it interesting to see where my readers come from – like you, most of mine come from the USA, even though I live in the uk.
It’s just great to meet people from around the globe! 🙂
